ORCHESTRA OF THE FILIPINO YOUTH
Established by Ang Misyon, Inc., an organization cofounded by First Philippine Holdings Chairman Federico R. Lopez and internationally renowned Filipino Concert Pianist Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz, the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth is composed of 58 scholars from Sistema for the Filipino Youth (SFY). SFY is a music program that offers children from deprived communities the opportunity to achieve their full musical potential through Classical Music discipline with the ultimate hope of creating a positive impact on their respective communities.
MAESTRO OLIVIER OCHANINE
French-American conductor Olivier Ochanine is the First Prize Winner of the 2015 Antal Dorati International Conducting Competition. Since 2010, Mr. Ochanine has been the Music Director & Principal Conductor of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, the nation’s leading orchestra. He also holds the distinction to be the PPO’s first and only music director to lead them in a historic performance at the Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Brian Berino discovered his love for music only three years ago when he began piano lessons with Josiah Samaniego. After a year of lessons, Mr. Samaniego approached his former mentor – internationally renowned and multi-awarded Filipino Concert Pianist Jonvianney Emmanuel Cruz to accept Brian into his studio.
In October 2014, Brian gave his debut recital in the home of Taiwanese pianist Dr. Chi-Ying Hung. His appearance in Francisfest 2016 marks his first performance as a soloist with orchestra.
OFY has performed in various venues and has gone on concert tours to Iloilo, Isabela and Dumaguete, performing to capacity.
In April 2015, the OFY joined forces with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra under the batons of Maestro Olivier Ochanine & Gerard Salonga in Ang Sistema: The Young People’s Concerence – a fundraising concert & conference at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the National Arts Center in Makiling.
2016 Performances abroad:
• six performances of 7 senior Strings Quorum in New
York City, New Jersey and Washington DC where they received an overwhelming standing ovation
• three concerts at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center with the Amazing Orchestra of Malaysia, KLPAC Symphonic Band and the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra
