“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”- Luke 18:16
One of the highlights of the parish fiesta for the young and ‘the young at heart’ was the annual Children’s Day, with the theme “Animal Adventure!” held last June 8, 2014 at the Parish Center Hall. It was an amazing safari party where everyone came in costume, dressed up in their favorite animal, or had their face painted to be scary and silly characters.
Just imagine, stepping into the parish center which was spectacularly transformed into a wild jungle— with vines and leaves hanging from the ceiling, lots of colorful animals as the stage backdrop, and balloon animals all around! Plus, you could see many Lukers and Antiochers in crazy costumes who were taking care of the kids in every booth.
There were lots of terrific activities for every jungle boy and girl— such as arts and crafts, balloon twisting, face painting, glitter tattoo, photo booth, silly safari games, hair and nail salon, and a huge inflatable play place with a slide. Kids of all ages had fun in joining the party games, and won lots of prizes after. Everyone enjoyed trying the yummy food and snacks, refreshing drinks and delicious desserts that were served. It was a delight to see everyone go home with loot bags filled with snacks and treats.
The most memorable part of the afternoon was, that the entire audience was treated to an interactive skit: “Noah’s Ark” staged by the Youth of San Antonio- Antiochers. The kids watched earnestly in seeing Noah take care of the animals, work with his friends, and trust God’s plan. When invited onstage, the kids were happily mimicking sounds of the bird, tiger, dog, cow, and pig; while moving, dancing and singing on stage. No doubt, the skit depicting the beloved bible story was a hit! At the end of the program, we announced the winner for Best Costume.
This event was made possible by the Family Life Ministry headed by Doy and Jeannie Bitanga, Karen Blanco and the Youth of San Antonio (Luke 18, Antioch, and Single Young Adults) headed by Crissy Castillo, Reg Galvez, Sandi Suplido, Iona Mapa (decorations), Tara Singson (graphics) and Carla Gonzales and Kevin Kramer (program hosts).
Judging from the smiles and laughter of the kids, our generous and supportive sponsors namely— Krispy Kreme, McDonald’s, Rustan’s Supermarket, RFM Corporation, Rebisco, Tinette and Co. Salon, Everest Academy, Integrow Children’s Activity Center, Colorplus, Mr. Jun Rodriguez, Mr. Edmund Lim and Mrs. Marixi Prieto were all indeed instrumental to making this Children’s Day a success!
After this animal adventure, may we all be a Noah to each other, passing on God’s love to everyone, towards one faith, one family, one parish!
